AUDITION PROCESS:
Candidates hoping to be considered as a Santa Clara Vanguard Drum Major should exemplify excellence in both conducting and leadership. The selection process will happen over the course of three rounds:
Round One - Open to All (Deadline 11/06/23):
All Round One participants are required to submit the Google Form prior to the deadline in order to be considered for a Drum Major position. In this form, you will be asked to complete the following:
1. Resumé - Please include any pertinent marching and/or leadership experience
2. Cover Letter - Tell us about who you are and how this position fits into your life on a larger scale. This letter should convey to the staff why you're a great candidate for this role
3. Two References for SCV to contact for Letters of Recommendation
4. Video - Record and upload (unlisted) to YouTube a short video including the following content:
- Introduction - Share with us your marching experience and why you would like to be a Drum Major for the Santa Clara Vanguard!
- Conducting - Three 30-60 second samples of your conducting abilities: One example that showcases your technique and fundamental abilities, one more fast-paced, aggressive piece of music (think drum corps closer), and one more lyrical example (think drum corps ballad). Be sure to capture your full body and face in this video and audio samples should be clearly audible.
Round Two - Invitation Only:
All Round One participants will receive an email by 11/20/23 informing them of their status and if they will be moving on to Round Two. Round Two participants will be asked to attend the 2-day in-person audition camp in Dallas, TX (additional registration and payment of $100 on mySCV will be due prior to this event). Finalists in Round Two will be evaluated during the weekend and will be informed of their status shortly after the completion of the weekend, either receiving a contract for 2024, an invitation to the callback camp in January, or an invitation to reapply next year.
REGISTRATION FEE:
The registration fee for this audition is $50. Full payment is required for participation and evaluation. This fee is payable online through MySCV.
Participants who move on to Round Two will need to register and pay for the 2-day in-person audition camp in Dallas, TX on December 9-10 through mySCV.
If you receive an offer of membership or an invitation for further review following Round Two (in-person December 9-10 audition), it will be mandatory that you attend the January Callback Camp in the DFW area. An additional registration fee of $150 for this event will be due at that time.
